Pulling with My Parents

When it comes to swiping right... Maybe the kids are doing it wrong!

In this brand new dating format, parents take control of their children’s love-lives. Why? Because noone knows them better than mum and dad. There has been an explosion in online dating, for the “internet generation” it’s the standard way of meeting a potential partner. Tinder, Grindr, Bumble, Sweatt, Bristlr, Insta, Snap, and book, the proliferation of these apps have turned the dating world upside-down; changing how we meet people, what we know about them before we do and introducing a new layer of ambiguity into single life, that generations before us never had to contend with. In short, modern dating can be a total minefield.

The programme uses this humorous device through which to explore family dynamics, as well as the more obvious love and sex debate. Recommissioned for a third, celebrity, series on RTÉ2 in Ireland, it is awkward, cringey, funny and revealing as this cupid culture clash unfolds on camera.

Pulling with My Parents won The Royal Television Society Northern Ireland’s award for Features and Factual Entertainment 2020.
