There has been an explosion in online dating, for the “internet generation” it’s the standard way of meeting a potential partner. Tinder, Grindr, Bumble, Sweatt, Bristlr, Insta, Snap, and book, the proliferation of these apps have turned the dating world upside-down; changing how we meet people, what we know about them before we do and introducing a new layer of ambiguity into single life, that generations before us never had to contend with. In short, modern dating can be a total minefield.
The programme uses this humorous device through which to explore family dynamics, as well as the more obvious love and sex debate. Recommissioned for a third, celebrity, series on RTÉ2 in Ireland, it is awkward, cringey, funny and revealing as this cupid culture clash unfolds on camera.
