Pumas - Legends of the Ice Mountains

PLAY

This film is set in the mountains of Torres del Paine in Chile, and it tells the dramatic story of a puma family – it’s moving, sad, and joyful, all set against some of the most spectacular landscapes in South America.

Filmed expertly for three years and under extreme conditions, this is the story of a family of pumas, following their bloodline and dynasty.

It is an intimate family portrait: moving, sad, joyful, all set against some of the most spectacular landscapes in South America. There is hunting behaviour during the day like never seen before. There are the pumas’ preferred prey, the guanacos and their lives. There are the condors, these permanent companions of the pumas. There is the frozen lake the cats have to cross, even as it starts to crack and melt at the end of winter. And there is the mythology of an elegant, yet elusive cat that has more than 40 different descriptive names throughout its range over both the Americas. This two-parter is beautiful and revealing, authentic and well-crafted.
