Baby Elephant School follows Welsh biologist and elephant researcher, Lizzie Daly, as she helps to prepare 60 mischievous elephant orphans for their return to the wild.
BABY ELEPHANT SCHOOL is a visually rich and emotionally powerful documentary set at the world’s largest and most successful elephant orphanage. At the Elephant Transit Home in Sri Lanka’s Udawalawe National Park, a herd of orphaned calves, all rescued from human elephant conflict, are nurtured back to health by a dedicated team of carers and prepared for their return to the wild.
With unprecedented access, the film follows the elephants’ journey from the moment of rescue, through the challenges of rehabilitation, to the emotional day of release. It captures the heartbreak of loss, the joy of new bonds, and the fragile first steps of calves learning to be wild again.
Blending observational storytelling, natural history, and science, BABY ELEPHANT SCHOOL is a deeply moving portrait of resilience, care, and the extraordinary efforts of a community to return these vulnerable young elephants to where they truly belong.
