Filmed over several years in South Africa’s Sabi Sands Game Reserve, Mapogo: The Lion Throne tells the extraordinary true story of six male lions whose alliance transformed the balance of power across one of Africa’s most fiercely contested landscapes. Led by Makulu, Mr T and Kinky Tail, the Mapogos conquered territory, overthrew rivals and took control of prides on a scale that stunned researchers and secured their place in wildlife legend.

Yet dominance comes at a cost. As loyalties shift and the coalition begins to fracture, the bond that made the Mapogos seemingly unstoppable is tested by rivalry, loss and the brutal realities of survival. The series also reveals the strength and strategic choices of the lionesses, whose protection of their cubs and fight for survival shape the fate of every pride within the Mapogos’ domain.
