Landmines: The Return of Banned Weapon

Russia’s war in Ukraine has reshaped Europe’s security mindset and triggered a dramatic policy shift in Finland: the reconsideration of anti-personnel landmines.

The Finnish armed forces view these weapons as a “cost-effective tool” for national defense and a pragmatic means of deterrence. For Zoran Ješic, however, landmines represent something entirely different. He lost his leg to a mine during the Bosnian War, and his experience reflects the enduring human cost of these weapons. Even decades after conflicts end, they continue to kill and render entire regions uninhabitable.

The film explores the tension between military logic, political decision-making, and humanitarian principles.
