Digital Tsunami: Big Tech, Big AI, Big Brother

PLAY

The unexpected consequences of the digital revolution, including social media addiction, the risks of out-of-control AI and surveillance capitalism, have created an urgent need for "strategies for survival".

2024 has seen dramatic stories about threats posed by aspects of the digital revolution. We're engulfed in a digital tsunami - a toxic mix of artificial intelligence, state and corporate surveillance, social media, and "surveillance capitalism".

The film shows how these are all part of a digital ecosystem that is changing us as humans -- just as prophetic media guru Marshall McLuhan predicted 60 years ago. Featured are one of the "godfathers" of AI, Yoshua Bengio, who warns recent developments pose a threat to humanity, and 2024 Nobel winner Daron Acemoglu, who warns "Big Tech is bad. Big A.I. will be worse."

The film also gives a voice to marginalized victims of the digital tsunami.
