Rivers flow like veins across the Earth, a lifeline to countless habitats and ecosystems. Since the dawn of time they have been vital in the development of animal and human life alike. They are habitats in constant flux, changing with the seasons and gradually altered over time.

As we run the river’s course, we meet the diverse and spectacular animals who depend on it. There’s no doubt that these waterways are as much as lifeblood to this wildlife as they are to us. It’s hard to appreciate just how important rivers are to our planet, both to the natural world and our own lives. They nurture our crops, fuel our travel and deliver our drinking water; jeopardising the health of our rivers really is a matter of life and death. There’s no doubt that rivers deserve our respect and protection – they’re our lifeblood and we must keep them flowing.
