K-POP Academy: Battle Squad

PLAY

This unscripted youth series serves up the coolest dance moves in electrifying battles where only the finest young performers will come out on top.

Hot on the heels of K-Pop Academy’s success, KPA Battle Squad is a different format, but full of the same sass and fun, capturing young talent as they build their freestyle moves and then … battle it out!

Originating from break dancing in the 1970’s, contemporary Dance Battles have evolved into young dancers mashing-up eight street styles and genre - breaking, hip hop, locking, waaking, popping, krumping, lite feet & house.

KPA – Battle Squad is presented by Rina Chae, Mr. Zee and a squad of coaches, all specialists in their chosen dance genre. After auditions to select a squad of 16, the series is a simple, self-contained episodic competition. We get to know the kids, get a peek into their personal style and motivations, track the origins and learn the fundamentals of their chosen dance genre.

While preparing to battle, each of our squad can choose three genres to learn, training under the expertise of a specialist coach. Across the series there are four BATTLE ROUNDS and the 16 dancers compete as solos, duos and teams. There are also WILD CARD BATTLES where the public (young and old) are invited to compete with our ‘Squad’.
