Drawing on conspiracy theories, anti-government sentiment and promises of a new sovereign order, she built an increasingly devoted online following — one that would soon move far beyond the internet.
Through exclusive testimony from former members of Didulo’s self-styled “mobile government”, affected families, community members and local officials, Queen of Canada traces how an online movement became a high-control real-world phenomenon. Followers were encouraged to reject conventional institutions and embrace Didulo’s alternative system of authority, while families fractured and communities were left dealing with the consequences.
At the center of the story is Richmound, Saskatchewan, where Didulo and her followers established themselves in a former school, bringing a national online phenomenon directly into the life of a small community. As resistance grows, the film follows the escalating confrontation between the movement and those determined to challenge its presence.
Investigative journalist Mack Lamoureux leads an unfolding investigation into Didulo’s rise, combining social-media material, rare archival footage and first-hand accounts to examine how isolation, distrust and the architecture of online platforms can draw people deeper into conspiratorial belief. Many of those interviewed speak publicly for the first time about how they entered Didulo’s world, what kept them there and what it ultimately cost them to leave.
