Canada's wild landscapes are under siege. Fast-spreading hybrid “superpigs” are wreaking havoc on ecosystems, farmlands, and wildlife - even in sub-zero temperatures. Now, they’re poised to cross the border and invade the United States. Originally introduced as livestock, superpigs are a cross between wild boars and domestic pigs, this hybrid animal possesses the best qualities of each species: they’re intelligent, vicious, and have supercharged reproductive abilities. Since 2001, wild pigs in Canada have increased from 0 to an estimated 62,000, spanning a range of over 750,000 kilometers. They are poised to invade the USA in large numbers!
The film will follow Dr. Ryan Brook on a mission deep into Canada's frozen wilderness as he uses innovative scientific strategies to combat the explosive growth of these destructive swine - despite unsupportive governments who refuse to take the problem seriously.
By building "pigloos" to keep warm under the snow, Superpigs have defied experts who claimed they couldn’t survive a harsh Canadian winter. Using innovative hidden camera traps and collar mounted cameras, we'll capture never-before-seen footage of these resourceful animals in sub-zero temperatures to reveal their intelligence and adaptability.
Canada's not the only place facing a wild pig problem. In recent years, the native wild boar population has exploded in countries in Europe and Asia, resulting in dangerous human-pig confrontations in Germany, France, Italy, China, Japan, and Singapore.
From the impressive nature of these wild pigs as they thrive in the frozen wilderness, to the ecological and economic devastation left in their wake, Invasion of the Superpigs will shine new light on a human-caused catastrophe that will forever alter the global landscape.
