Dogs in the Land of Lions

PLAY

‘Dogs in the Land of Lions’ is a deeply intimate portrayal of selflessness and motherhood in the rare African Wild Dog.

In the mist-shrouded hilltops of Zimbabwe’s Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve, Puzzles and Jigsaw are attempting to raise a family without the help of ‘the pack’.

One afternoon Jigsaw fails to return, leaving Puzzles to raise more than a dozen young all by herself. But she is still unable to leave her newest cubs. The only course of action is to send the older dogs out to hunt. The risks are great. They are inexperienced teenagers, without adult supervision they may lose concentration, lose their prey and perhaps even their lives – to the lions. They hunt for more than their family’s survival. Only 700 breeding pairs of Wild Dogs remain in the world. Failure is not an option.
