Earth in 2040 is struggling. Global warming, pollution and overpopulation continue to put pressure on animals at risk. Our story begins with one such animal, an elephant named Lufutuko or Tuko (pronounced “Tuku”) for short.

When Tuko’s mate dies, she becomes the last elephant on Earth, what biologists call an endling. This endling status triggers an alert in the far reaches of the galaxy. Extinction, it turns out, is not unique to Earth; countless species on countless different worlds have faced the same fate. But there is one Alien who is hoping to change that. This Alien’s quest is to save the last of any species in the hopes of one day bringing them back. This quest is of particular personal importance, as this Alien is also an endling.
