Directed by Ali Ray and made in close collaboration with the National Gallery, London and the Musée d’Orsay, Paris, the film is currently in production and will be released in cinemas from 19 January 2027.
EXHIBITION NEWS: More than 22,000 tickets were booked for the National Gallery exhibition ahead of opening, setting a new advance-sales record and surpassing the Gallery’s 2024 Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers exhibition over the equivalent booking period.

Pierre-Auguste Renoir was a founding figure of Impressionism and one of its great painters of human connection. Across scenes of courtship, friendship, family life and Parisian sociability, he returned again and again to the ways people come together, capturing fleeting moments of affection, intimacy and pleasure with extraordinary warmth and colour.
Renoir in Love takes its inspiration from the landmark Renoir and Love exhibition, bringing together some of the artist’s most ambitious and celebrated paintings from the crucial years between the mid-1860s and mid-1880s. Among them are works that have become inseparable from our image of Impressionist Paris, including Dance at the Moulin de la Galette, shown in the UK for the first time as part of the exhibition.
With exclusive access to the exhibition and close examination of the paintings, the film explores how Renoir transformed the language of love, desire, affection and friendship into something distinctly modern. Leading curators and experts reveal an artist whose work was not simply about beauty, but about the changing social world around him and the emotional life within it.
The exhibition has already become a major international event. Following a highly successful run at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, where it was among the museum’s most visited exhibitions, it opens at the National Gallery, London from 3 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 before travelling to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston from 20 February to 13 June 2027. The London presentation is the most significant exhibition of Renoir’s work in the UK for 20 years.
