A Lion Legacy

The Sausage Tree Pride are buffalo specialists and make killing such formidable prey look easy. On the sweeping plains of the Maasai Mara, they have developed into a well-oiled hunting machine and through teamwork and experience, their kill rate is impressive. The leader of the pride is a formidable lioness called Crooked Tail, due to a kink in her tail. She is a skilled huntress and guardian of the pride, leading the way when it comes to hunting and defending her kills against hyena.

The pride is presided over by a dominant male called Kipuli, identified by a split in his nose, and two younger males, the grown offspring of the Sausage Tree Pride which Kipuli has courted as coalition partners to strengthen his position. Together they are a powerful team. They help the pride’s hunting efforts by bringing down fully grown buffalo and in return, they achieve the highest accolade of all - the right to mate with the pride females.
