For the first time, Dany Dattel travels to the fateful places of his life, to Auschwitz and to the children of his rescuers on the death march in Czechia. His odyssey also leads into the world of high-risk banking, opening a striking window onto postwar West German history with unscrupulous bankers and virulent anti-Semitism.
For decades, Dany Dattel avoided any contact with the media, which made him a scapegoat. In front of our camera, however, he appears open, relaxed, even humorous, as he confronts his memories with remarkable clarity. His quiet triumph is captured in his own words: "At the Wannsee Conference, the Nazis decided to exterminate all Jews. They did not succeed. I'm still alive!" Four months after filming in Auschwitz, Dany Dattel passed away.
