We dive into the story of a single iceberg, from its stunning birth in Greenland, to its death off the shores of Canada.

Seeing an iceberg in person, is on the bucket list of a growing number of people around the world. A record number of tourists visited Newfoundland this summer, in hopes of making that wish come true. What is it about icebergs that seems to mesmerize us?

The Berg will explore that question by taking viewers on a the life’s journey of one particular iceberg, from its stunning birthplace at the Eqi Glacier in southwestern Greenland, to its eventful life on Canada’s east coast. A team of cinematographers, outfitted with drones, an ROV and split rig technology capture the enigmatic beauty of this year’s icebergs - from land, from the air and from below the water. This documentary delves even further, exploring the hidden aspects of icebergs: the chemistry, physics and biology that make them valuable to life in the ocean.

Featuring leading scientists and legendary Canadian ice-cave diver Jill Heinerth, the expedition pushes into rarely seen territory beneath the berg, uncovering the ecosystems that gather around these frozen behemoths.

The team also explores the darker side of icebergs, learning about the dangers they pose to shipping, and the lifesaving work done by scientists and researchers to keep people safe at sea.

The Berg follows our plucky iceberg all the way to the end. And the end comes unexpectedly, leaving everyone to reflect on perhaps the greatest gift from icebergs, the lessons they teach us about the natural world and our place in it.
