Narrated by breakout microdrama star Sam Myerson, 'MAPOGO: The
Lion Throne' anchors the global expansion of FlareFlow’s Vertical 2.0
this late Q3 2026.
LOS ANGELES, June 3, 2026 — Global vertical storytelling pioneer and market leader COL Group International, and award-winning international distribution and production indie BOMANBRIDGE Media, today announced a landmark co-production: the world’s first premium, vertical-first documentary series, set to premiere globally on FlareFlow in late Q3 2026.
Unveiled at Owl&Co’s Vertical Media Summit, the project marks a historic evolution for the format, boldly expanding the vertical landscape beyond scripted drama into premium factual entertainment and blockbuster natural history.
Tentatively titled MAPOGO: The Lion Throne, the cinematic wildlife documentary was filmed over several years in South Africa’s legendary Sabi Sands Game Reserve. Built from the ground up for vertical-first viewing, the series chronicles the brutal rise and tragic fall of the Mapogo Lion Coalition, widely regarded as the most famous, feared, and legendary lion dynasty ever documented.
Adding major star power to the project, the series will be narrated by popular microdrama icon Sam Myerson, fresh off his hit performance in the viral sensation Oops, I Married My Bestie's Brother, which garnered a record 220M views in only 10 days.
"Narrating MAPOGO is an incredible opportunity to show how the core elements of a great microdrama are entirely universal," said Sam Myerson. "The same things that keep fans hooked on microdramas, like intense drama, high stakes, and shifting loyalties, are exactly what make these lions so fascinating. We are bringing that same fast-paced, gripping energy to a new documentary format of microdrama."
Led by iconic apex males including Mr. T, Kinky Tail, and Makulu, the Mapogos became global wildlife legends whose dramatic saga continues to drive massive online fandoms, safari lore, and fan discussions years after their reign. Believed to have eliminated more than 100 rival lions during their violent ascent, the coalition stunned researchers with the unprecedented scale and brutality of their rule.
By combining the cliffhanger pacing and emotional intensity of vertical drama with the sweeping scale of premium natural history, the production is positioned to be the world's first true vertical documentary event. BOMANBRIDGE Media brings decades of experience in high-end factual storytelling, international distribution expertise, and a globally recognized track record of delivering top-tier documentary programming to major broadcasters and digital platforms worldwide.
Vertical 2.0 Expands
This launch marks the next phase of FlareFlow’s Vertical 2.0 strategy to raise new standards of microdrama and their potential. With more than 33 million registered users across 200+ countries and territories, and over 5,200 series released, FlareFlow continues to scale as one of the world’s fastest growing vertical entertainment platforms.
Timothy Oh, General Manager of International Business at COL Group and Chief Marketing Officer of FlareFlow, noted that the evolution of the format makes this the perfect time for such a release:
“Vertical storytelling has already entered its next chapter. MAPOGO: The Lion Throne is the perfect story to launch documentary as part of Vertical 2.0 because its emotional DNA already mirrors the very best premium scripted storytelling. This is one of wildlife’s most legendary true sagas, packed with all the betrayal, power, loss and suspense that vertical audiences connect
with instinctively.”
Sonia Fleck, CEO of BOMANBRIDGE Media, agreed that shifting viewer habits are driving this untapped opportunity in the market:
“The factual genre has always evolved alongside shifts in audience behavior and viewing technology,” said Sonia Fleck, CEO of BOMANBRIDGE Media. “Following our continued expansion through international partnerships and catalogue acquisitions, we saw a clear opportunity to bring premium natural history storytelling into the vertical space, an area that remains largely untapped for documentary. As viewing habits become increasingly mobile-native,
we believe the next generation of factual storytelling must evolve alongside them.
“The true story of the Mapogo lions felt like the perfect project to launch this initiative. Their rise and fall remains one of the most legendary and emotionally powerful wildlife stories that still captivates audiences even after the end of their reign.”
Premiering globally in late Q3 2026, MAPOGO: The Lion Throne marks COL Group and FlareFlow’s latest step in shaping the future of vertical storytelling and demonstrates how some of the world’s greatest true stories can be reimagined for the mobile first era.
